Each ASU scholarship application is carefully reviewed by an unbiased scholarship committee. Scholarships are competitively awarded based on merit, considering outstanding academic achievement and standardized test scores (ACT or SAT). ASU academic scholarship awards are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis and based solely on academic achievement, and the availability of scholarship funds at the time of application.

Unless otherwise stated, academic scholarships cover the tuition only and are available only to first-time applicants seeking their first undergraduate degree from Alabama State University.

In order to be considered for an academic scholarship applicants must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1. Typically, awards including grants and funds that do not have to be repaid are considered when applications are reviewed to avoid over-awarding any student thus resulting in a student refund. Federal regulations prohibit financial aid over-awarding.
