Eligibility for Direct Loan Interest Subsidy Limited Starting July 1

  • As a result of legislation enacted in July 2012, eligibility for the Direct Loan interest subsidy will be limited for new borrowers on or after July 1, 2015.
  • The law restricts the period of time for which a borrower may receive subsidized loans, in the aggregate, to 150 percent of the published length of the student’s current educational program.

  • Once the student reaches that limit, he or she may borrow only unsubsidized loans, and interest begins to accrue on the student’s outstanding subsidized loan.

Cost & Aid

Since our founding in 1867, Alabama State University has worked to make the fundamental right of an education accessible to all people. We believe cost should never be an obstacle to seeking the benefits of higher education. That’s why our Financial Aid Office will work hard to make sure you are informed about the many types of aid available to you and guide you through the process of securing financial assistance.
