STEM Outreach and Academic Renewal Program (SOAR)

 

SOAR is a tutorial service designed to enrich and improve the academic progress of students in grades 3-12 in mathematics.

The SOAR Program strives to prepare students to think critically and enhance their quantitative literacy skills in a student-centered environment.

Additionally, the program is designed to help students discover, measure and enhance their skills, ability and knowledge in mathematics and STEM-related fields.

When you prepare for academic excellence, you will produce results. SOAR to greatness in STEM achievement.

SOAR

 

PROGRAM GOALS

The overall goal of the Alabama State University SOAR program is two-fold: 

  • Students will identfiy and enhance skills in mathematics, and 
     
  • Students will increase their interest in attaining academic success in STEM disciplines.
     

Identify

student achievement in mathematics with diagnostic assessments.  

Develop

enrichment programs based on individual results and grade level standards.

Prepare

for class assignments and assessments through homework assistance.

Review

student performance data from SOAR activities.

Integrate

STEM knowledge through hands-on projects and the use of technology.

 

 



PROGRAM INFORMATION



STUDENT CRITERIA

Program Cost:
$350

  • Students must be enrolled in grades 3-12
    for the 2015-16 school year.

Parent and Student Orientation:
January 30, 2016, 9 a.m. to noon
Dunn-Oliver Acadome
Hornets Lounge

  • Students must submit their most recent transcript
    at the time of SOAR program registration.

Program Meeting Times:
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

  • Students must obtain signatures from their current
    mathematics teacher and parents on the SOAR Program
    Participation Form.
Please Note:
  • Registration is required
  • Snacks will be provided
  • Supervision provided for all scheduled activities
