Continuing Education

AlabamaState University's Division of Continuing Education provides public support by offering workshops, mini-courses, professional training sessions and youth programs to meet special community needs.

In addition, Continuing Education cooperates with professional groups and community organizations in sponsoring seminars and conferences. Non-credit courses are made available on a demand basis to individuals, regardless of age, those seeking self-improvement, professional development or personal enrichment.

The Division of Continuing Education has no specific admission requirements, but there are nominal fees related to each course or program.  Although there is no college credit earned, participants can receive certificates and Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

>> Professional Development Program
Continuing Education continues each year to offer an array of professional workshops, conferences, and seminars to our community in an effort to meet the needs of the community. Through community organizations and professional groups we offer subject matters such as: How to Handle Difficult People, Dealing with Change, Supervising Your Personnel and Managing Stress.

>> Enrichment Courses
Continuing Education offers the most up to date personal enrichment courses to our community. Courses such as: English as a Second Language, Spanish I, Making Your Point Effectively through Public Speaking are offered to those seeking self-improvement.

>> ACT Preparation Program (APP)
A face-to-face course with students to identify weaknesses and strengths in all areas covered on the ACT. One-on-one or small group setting. Highly qualified teachers in subject areas covered by ACT. Immediate feedback and assistance to help students work through difficult test questions. Academic and career counseling for parents and students.  Academic and career counseling designed to help parents and students focus on the student’s needs and planning career goals. Tailoring student’s preparation to achieve the score needed for admissions to schools of his or her choice. Professional administrators who advocate for students’ admissions to colleges and universities of their choice. Professional administrators who advocate for scholarships for students enrolled in the ASU ACT Preparation Program.

>> Summer Youth/Kids College Adventure Program (SKYCAP)
Continuing Education strives each year to offer families a diverse choice of activities and courses designed to enhance the child’s intellectual, recreational and social growth. SKYCAP is a summer outreach program of enrichment opportunities for youth grades 1 through 12. The program’s overall goal is to support students in their journey to academic and personal success through elementary, high school, college and into careers. It is our aim to improve the academic performance of each student and to enhance knowledge and competence in advanced mathematics and computer technology.

>> National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI)
Continuing Education introduces each year 20 ninth and tenth grade students to promising careers in transportation and encourages them to begin charting a course that will help them prepare for these careers. The institute is a residential program. The overall mission of the NSTI Program is to prepare each student to become an integral part of the transportation workforce of the 21st century by focusing on science, technology, engineering and mathematics through curriculum development and enrichment activities. This program is being offered to our Black Belt region in an effort to fulfill a dual mission: (1) to enhance employment opportunities in transportation for young people in under-represented groups and (2) to motivate and prepare them for their future in our transportation industry.
