The Historically Black Colleges and Universities Undergraduate Program (HBCU-UP) aims to strengthen the undergraduate curricula, research, student recruitment and retention, and faculty development activities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) with emphasis in the areas of NanoBioengineering, and Nanobiotechnology through the proposed Initiative in NanoBioengineering Undergraduate Research and Education for Minority students (INBUREM). The INBUREM program activities are inter-disciplinary involving all STEM departments at ASU. The project goals, aims and activities will be achieved through the following:

lsb1) Reforming the STEM Curricula
2) Providing research experience to undergraduates through academic and
summer research opportunities at major institutions, private companies,
    international institutions and federal laboratories.
3) Engaging faculty in research and professional development activities by
broadening their research, publication, and grantsmanship involvement
4) Infusing technology in educational and research programs in all STEM areas
5) Enhancing recruitment, retention and transition of STEM students through
high school to graduate school activities

The proposed “INBUREM" will prepare competitive students for the STEM workforce, especially in high demand areas of nanobioengineering and nanotechnology, as well as establish a pipeline of students into graduate and professional programs.
