Korea Study Abroad Program

The University of Ulsan (UOU) in South Korea offers a four-week program in Korean culture during the month of July for whichKorean Flag seven ASU students are eligible. This study abroad opportunity, the Ulsan International Program, consists not only of traditional lectures, but field trips to Hyundai manufacturing sites, a trip to a Buddhist mountain retreat, a home stay for a weekend with a Korean family, and visits to government institutions including the presidential palace in Seoul.

The cost to ASU students will be limited as the University of Ulsan provides dormitory rooms and meals at no cost to American students and ASU will pay for all but about $400 of the round trip airfare to Ulsan for the students selected for the program. In addition to this limited cost of airfare, students will also incur the cost of a passport, a small application/registration fee for the University of Ulsan, and the cost of registering for a four-hour ASU course for the summer term.

To apply for the program, current ASU students must submit a letter indicating how study in South Korea will benefit them in terms of professional development, an ASU transcript (an unofficial copy is acceptable), and a current resume. This application packet should be sent by March 1st to Dr. Thomas Vocino, Executive Director, Center for Leadership and Public Policy, 600 South Court Street, Montgomery, AL 36104. The selection of the seven students for the program will be made by a committee of ASU faculty and administrators.

If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Vocino at (334)229-6015 or email

Due to Budgetary Constraints this program has been temporary suspended. Please watch for its renewal.
