The T-PAC Program

The T-PAC program is designed to increase the STEM graduate degree completion of URMs and facilitate their transition into the STEM professoriate level.

T-PAC Program Specific Activities

One unique component of the T-PAC Program is access to online resources and activities to enhance their graduate experience. These activities will involve webinars, in which a speaker from the hosting institution will record a lecture, share presentations, videos of techniques or concepts, links to web pages, or other multimedia content. Webinars will be accompanied by discussion boards in wiki format, where all T-PAC program members can post question, answers, comments and useful information, organized by meaningful threads, as well as virtual office hours via Skype during which scholars can address specific issues. Social media platforms will be used to promote cross-institutional collaboration and a sense of community, for networking purposes and to disseminate news of student’s progress and achievements. Content-based tutorials will be brief webinars about core concepts of undergraduate Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics for which a need have been identified. Qualifying examination tutorials will include webinars with review of core concepts in the above listed disciplines, and, and strategies for time organization and task completion. The technical writing and proposal development courses will combine online and face-to-face meetings involving webinars explaining the basics of technical writing, student assignments returned with comments identifying areas of need, and online tutoring on writing (webinars may be modified based on needs identified by the writing tutors).

Each T-PAC scholar will be assigned to a cohort and project faculty mentors to assist with participation in all online activities. Each T-PAC scholar is required to participate in the online activities. Information sessions will be scheduled periodically to facilitate scholars with use of the online resources.

Academic support:

Seminars, tutorials, and workshops will be used to address content areas of need, as well as provided preparation for academic careers. Content workshops and tutorials will include core concepts of biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, and other areas in which a need is identified. These tutorials may be accompanied by videos of techniques or concepts, links to web pages, or other multimedia content, discussion boards, and virtual office hours.
