Rickesha Robbins

For Rickesha Robbins, attending Alabama State University is not only about setting the foundation for her future, but also about continuing a family tradition.

The Mobile native wanted to follow in the footsteps of her uncle, aunts and cousins who all are ASU alumni. She also has a sister who is a senior at ASU.

Robbins, a sophomore, is majoring in communications with a concentration in radio/television. She hopes to one day become a TV personality and a talk show host. She says that her education at ASU is providing her with the knowledge and confidence she needs to achieve her goals, and she has developed a new sense of self-reliance since she enrolled.

“ASU is a great HBCU; I enjoy seeing new faces every day, campus fashion, and I love my professors.”

Robbins says her favorite class was Dr. Holliday’s African-American humanities class, and her proudest achievement thus far was making the Dean’s List.

One of the most exciting aspects of her experience at ASU has been the opportunity to witness ASU’s transformation. Robbins says the many new buildings and programs will be beneficial to ASU students for years to come.

When Robbins is not in the classroom, she enjoys dancing and acting. During her freshman year she was a member of the Dramatic Guild’s Elite Models group.

Robbins has this advice for future ASU students: “Stay focused, and surround yourself with people who have the same drive and similar dreams as you.”
