Bridgette Moore

When Bridgette Moore first made the decision to attend Alabama State University, she planned to work toward a degree in physical therapy; however, once she learned about the new BFA in Dance Program, she decided to follow her passion.

“I found out about the BFA in dance, and got into the theatre,” says Moore. “When I saw what it was bringing to the table, I became more interested and wanted to grow with the program.”

The senior Mobile, Ala., native and a member of ASU’s Eclectic Dance Company dreams of one day opening a community center and dance studio. And she still is considering earning a degree in physical therapy in order to pursue a career as a physical or dance therapist.

Moore says she spends most of her time in the theatre, working hard to perfect her craft. She adds that although dance can sometimes be challenging, her professors push her to be the very best that she can be.

“The faculty cares and makes sure students are well prepared to enter the professional world,” says Moore. “We have a wonderful dean -- she alone inspires many of us to put our best foot forward and reach highest potential. We’re always growing, and there are a lot of great people who come out of the theatre program. It’s inspiring to be a part of a great program and to know that what we put in is what we’re going to get out.”

When she’s not in the classroom, Moore enjoys hanging out with friends and surfing the Internet.

Moore says being a part of a new and growing program has done wonders for her confidence. She enjoys growing as the program grows, and says that she is learning to not be afraid to take risks when opportunity knocks.

“I am a lot better than what I give myself credit for,” said Moore. “I’ve learned that if I push beyond my limits, I can expand my horizons, to not be afraid of opportunities when they come up, and not be afraid to take chances.”
