Jessica Platt

Jessica Platt always has considered herself to be a bookworm, and she is right at home at ASU’s Levi Watkins Learning Center, where she teaches information literacy courses to both graduate and undergraduate education students.

Platt, an education doctoral librarian, earned her bachelor’s degree from ASU in 2002, a Master of Education from Auburn University in 2004 and a Master of Library Information Science from the University of Alabama in 2007.

The Jasper, Fla., native has worked ASU for five years, and enjoys the family atmosphere of the University.

“I love the friendliness of the faculty, staff and students I encounter every day. It truly is a great time to be a Hornet!” Platt said.

Before becoming a librarian at ASU, Platt managed a grant for the College of Education and was the library media specialist for the Zelia Stephens Early Childhood Center.

As an employee and a former ASU student, Platt has had a front-row seat to view the University’s growth.

“It’s amazing to watch the transformation process,” Platt said. “Back when I was a student here, the campus had a completely different look and feel to it. The beautiful new library, the College of Education building and all of the other construction projects are simply stunning.”

Outside of the library, Platt enjoys spending time with her family, reading novels and watching horror movies.

Platt is married to Dr. Tyson Platt, assistant professor of psychology at ASU. The couple has a daughter named October.
