Mr. Jay Crawford
Supervisor of Carpenters

Talent is everywhere you look at ASU. Jay Crawford, for example, is a master craftsman working as the University’s supervisor of carpenters. He maintains everything from ceilings to doors to floors. But once he leaves his ASU job, Crawford wears a much different hat – that of an artist.

For the past 20 years, the Washington, D.C., native has been drawing and painting. Crawford said he always has loved art and decided to pick up a paint brush after admiring the work of artists such as Picasso and other abstract expressionists.

During the fall of 2010, his work was exhibited at ASU’s Warren/Britt Gallery as the “Jay Crawford Solo Show.”

“The beauty about doing this show on campus is that I have a chance to show my work in an environment that I feel proud in. Not only do I work here, but I also get an opportunity to bring attention to my work as an artist, this beautiful art gallery and the Art Department itself,” Crawford said.

Crawford utilizes acrylic on canvas, acrylic on paper and oil on canvas in his style of painting.

He has held exhibits in New York and Arkansas and his pieces are hanging in corporate boardrooms and private collections across the country.
