Prerequisite Courses

Paper applications will NOT be accepted for the Physical Therapy Program. All
 
applications must go through PTCAS http://www.ptcas.org/home.aspx.  
 
Completion of minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to the program.
 
Once an applicant is accepted into the Physical Therapy Program, they must then apply
 
and be accepted into the ASU School of Graduate Studies.
 

In addition to satisfying the general admission requirements of the School of Graduate Studies at Alabama State University, the following special requirements must be satisfied by students seeking admission to the Physical Therapy Program:

1.       Completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited educational institution with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

2.       Completed application package for the Physical Therapy Program, submitted through PTCAS.

3.       GRE scores are required with recommended minimum scores of Verbal 150 or analytic writing of 3.5

4.       Prerequisite Grades:

  • Completion of the required prerequisite courses with a “C” or above
     
  • A prerequisite GPA of 3.0
     
  • A grade of “B” or above is recommended for the prerequisite courses.

* Courses in any aspect of microscopic, vertebrate or human biology are recommended. Botany courses are not accepted as prerequisites.

** Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II may be substituted for separate courses in

human anatomy and physiology

4.       A minimum of 80 hours of volunteer service in physical therapy under the
 
supervision of a licensed physical therapist at a hospital, nursing home, rehabilitation
 
center, outpatient clinic or community center. A minimum of two different settings are
 
required.
 
5.       Three recommendations are required that includes: one from a physical therapist
 
documenting the applicant’s exposure to a physical therapy clinical setting and one from
 
an instructor, academic advisor or recent employer who can evaluate the applicant’s
 
academic abilities and character.
 
6.       Complete the Essay requirements as per PT CAS
 
7. Complete all application requirements on PT CAS by deadline date posted on
 
PT CAS
 
8. On campus interviews may be required for selected applicants as part of the
