The goal of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction is to prepare teacher candidates who are interested in the development and education of children and youth in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, including Business Marketing Education, and Special Education  to become decision makers, change agents, lifelong learners and reflective practitioners. In keeping with present day demands, a second objective of the department is to lay the foundation for successful study at the graduate level.

Special programs for teachers who are seeking certification in the selected areas of Music and Physical Education are available in the College of Education, Departments of Curriculum and Instruction and Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER). These programs lead to the Bachelor of Science degree and Class “B’’ Alabama certification.
