Alabama Mandarin Language Immersion Program Staff

Student safety is of our utmost concern. Our culture immersion program participants will be accompanied by highly qualified personnel, specially selected for their professional and personal skill sets. Project Directors Dr. Huey-Ling Lin and Dr. Tina Vazin will be available, along with Program Coordinator Rose Liu, to answer students’ questions and meet their needs throughout their six-week stay.

Program Director

Dr. Huey-Ling Lin is an Associate Professor in early childhood education at Alabama State University . She is the Project Director of "Low-Cost Childcare for Nontraditional Students" funded by the U.S. Department of Education; “Food Safety Professional Development for Early Childhood Educator” funded by the USDA and “The Comprehensive System to Help Head Start Teachers to Obtain Four-Year Degrees” funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Lin is also an Evaluator of two federally funded projects: The Comprehensive Abstinence until Marriage Education Program and The Triangular Model of Abstinence Education. She has experience in both early childhood teacher training and quantitative and qualitative analyses of teachers' efficacy, student's beliefs, and student's readiness for school. Dr. Vaxin Parent Specialist

Dr. Tina Vazin, an Experimental Psychologist, presently serves as Chairperson of the Department of Foundations and Psychology at Alabama State University. Her research interests include childhood emotional development, individual differences in parenting styles and racial disparities in health-related behavior in children. She serves as a Parent Involvement Specialist for Project AHEAD, a collaborative federal grant involving Trenholm Technical College, Alabama State University, and Head Start. She is the Director of a project funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Resources that administers abstinence education programs in Montgomery Public Schools.


Program Coordinator

Ms. Marlisa Lee (Li Lee-Sue) brings an award-winning background in education and her love for the American people and sharing intercultural learning experiences to the Alabama Mandarin Language Immersion Program. She has taught at the elementary, junior high and high schools levels, in additional to having taught English at the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology.
