Anthony Troy Adams
Dean, College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences

Anthony Troy Adams is the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. He joined the university as a professor of sociology in 2012. Dean Adams received his Ph.D. and Master’s degrees in sociology from the University of Michigan (1990, 1987), and a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice and criminology from Eastern Michigan University (1983).

He also completed post-graduate work at Harvard University (2009) through its Management Development Program. Prior to joining ASU, he served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Criminology, Sociology & Geography at Arkansas State University (2007-2012), and as professor at Eastern Michigan University (1988-2007). He regularly teaches Social Statistics and Research Methods, Introduction to Sociology, and Applied Sociology. Adams has authored numerous manuscripts for presentations at professional proceedings, articles, and book chapters. His research interests include school violence, service-learning in higher education, food inaccessibility and mentoring.

The value of our college rests upon the expertise and diversity of our faculty.  C.L.A.S.S faculty members have been trained at leading research and teaching institutions in the United States and abroad. The scope of their research encompasses everything from the Civil War, to the Modern Civil Rights Movement, the use of geographic information systems (GIS) to investigate the prevalence of sex offenders, representations of Muslim women in early modern England’s Turkish and Moorish plays, visual literacy, Mexican lore, and Spanish creative artists.
