Testing Center



Providing Student Academic Success and Support Services

To support assessment efforts in the division of Academic Affairs, the Testing Center will provide comprehensive testing and assessment services to ensure that instructional programs and indicators of teaching and learning reflect standards of higher education.  To provide public service by offering computer-based and/or paper-pencil testing services.

The Testing Center functions primarily to facilitate transitions to and within the University by providing undergraduate and graduate entrance exams, university course placement exams, exams for course credit, exams to meet graduation requirements, as well as professional and correspondence exams for the community; and provides a facility conducive to a quality testing environment which will be clean, comfortable, quiet, and provide outstanding services by being friendly, courteous, responsible and informative of services.



The vision of Alabama State University's Testing Center is to provide cutting-edge services for internal and external constituents and maintain membership with and adhere to guidelines set forth by the National College Testing Association to ensure professional standards are reflected in the services.



  • Ensure a teaching-learning process that reflects new realities of assessing and assimilating information and varied learning styles of students.
  • Maintain and improve support for recruitment efforts.
  • To ensure that each operating unit establishes Continuous Improvement of Daily Operations (CIDO) core values operating philosophy that reflects the University's expectations of accuracy, timeliness and professional interactions with internal and external constituencies.
  • To enhance professional expertise in and responsibility for unit-specific, divisional and institutional operating processes and policies.



  • Provide adequate facilities and space for external and internal assessments for ASU students and the community.
  • Provide graduate admission and other academic tests for ASU students and the community.
  • Provide training for supervisors and proctors who help to assist the Testing Center with standardized tests.
  • Provide testing services at the highest level of professionalism through high customer service in an environment that is conducive to student success.
  • Provide workshops to enhance student academic success and support services for ASU students and communities.
  • To provide proctoring services for the office of QEP to administer computerized skills assessment tests to all cohort students at ASU.
