Dr. Naomi Caldwell

Dr. Naomi Caldwell (enrolled member of the Ramapough Lenape Indian Nation) holds a PhD in Information Sciences from the University of Pittsburgh. She also has a MSLS and BS in Education. Dr. Caldwell is an associate professor and coordinator of the Library Education Media Program at Alabama State University.  She has taught K-12 and supervised hundreds of graduate students in the northeast and participated on several doctoral research projects related to diversity.

Dr. Caldwell is a founding member of the American Indian Library Association and Youth Literature Award Committee.  Dr. Caldwell is a compelling speaker who has presented throughout the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom at conferences and workshops. She attended the Children's Literature Roundtable, Oxford University in 2009 and subsequently relocated to New Zealand for three years.

She is dedicated to the notion that indigenous people are well able to tell their own stories and their world view is valid. Her life's work is to dispel negative stereotypes by monitoring media for youth and present the truth from a native perspective.
