Here are the Facts...

The contents of this page are organized as a resource for University stakeholders to access factual information and responses in connection with the assessment of institutional finances and business practices. Alabama State University remains committed to operational and fiscal transparency, and information and records related to the current inquiry are presented in support of this longstanding value.

A Matter of Fact Video, December 19, 2013

The University explores several points, with supporting evidence, to demonstrate that there were no violations of the conflict of interest statute by members of the ASU Board of Trustees. This video provides reassurance that the University has worked cooperatively with Forensic Strategic Solutions (FSS) to bring the forensic investigation to a close. Additionally, several jarring errors and oversights by FSS are brought to light along with the company’s current legal and financial troubles.

Background Information

The Alabama Governor’s office released a preliminary update of the forensic assessment commissioned by Gov. Robert Bentley on October 14, 2013. ASU received a partial copy of the “Preliminary Update” on October 14, and the full document with all exhibits was obtained on October 17. A thorough and careful review is underway.

With receipt of this report, ASU is eager to finally have an opportunity to respond to and address the damaging and purposeful allegations that have loomed over our institution for nearly a year. We are committed to respond to inaccuracies and misrepresentations contained therein, and to utilize this matter as an opportunity to further strengthen business practices and processes.

Communication with stakeholders is of paramount importance, but the University has had comparatively less time to review a report that was 10 months in the making, and apparently under review by the Governor for a period of nearly three weeks. It is important for us to note that over the last 10 months, the University has worked diligently to bring this inquiry to a fair and responsible conclusion, providing hundreds of thousands of records covering a period of more than six years of transactions.

Promoting the Facts

Among other inaccuracies, the “Preliminary Update” released by Bentley on October 14 falsely accused the University of stonewalling, blocking and hindering the collection of information by their firm. This resource page will be used to share facts and documents such as two letters which are readily available and are posted for review (see Documents section at top right of this page).

These letters, sent on behalf of the University to the Governor's office concerning ASU’s efforts to fully respond to all requests in support of the completion of the audit, directly contrast statements contained throughout the report.

We ask for your continued patience as we investigate the report’s claims. This page will be utilized to provide information as it becomes available throughout this process, and in the coming days, we will begin to add more information to the page to address the report. We will make every effort to ensure clear and transparent sharing of information as expeditiously as humanly possible.
