See your work in print. Be of service to students, faculty and staff by telling them about breaking news that affects their lives or gives them a voice. Learn marketable skills in both your specific subject area as well as in management and human relations. Join the thousands of Student Media alumni who got their start in Student Media and are now media managers, editors, writers, graphic designers, salespeople, and many other occupations.

Jobs in Student Media are available for students without regard to major. Although many of the students are mass communication majors, other students are studying geography, engineering, design, computer science, English, etc.

Jobs are available at skill levels ranging from basic to highly technical; pay ranges are commensurate with the skill level and time commitment required. 

All paid employees are required to be full-time students at the university and must be in good standing, with a 2.2 minimum grade point average.

The major hiring periods are in August, for the fall semester and in December for the spring and summer semesters. Notices are placed in The Hornet Tribune and on bulletin boards announcing the schedule for applying and interviewing.

Persons applying for the top management position of a student medium will be interviewed by the Student Media Board and must complete an Executive Editor/Division Head Employment Application.  Persons applying for a management position of a medium must complete an Administrative Editor Employment Application.  Those students who are applying for a section editor or content editor for a particular medium will complete a Content Editor Employment Application.  For those students who would like to try reporting or writing for one of the mediums, they should utilize the Correspondent Application.  Those students who are applying or a support staff positions should utilize the Support Staff Employment Application. This applications are available from the Office of Student Media, 2nd floor of the John Garrick Hardy University Center, 2nd floor.
