Collaborating Institutions
Alabama State University has chosen to enter into a formalized collaborative agreement with the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). UAB was chosen because of the existing collaborations between many of the UAB faculty with ASU faculty. UAB is a major institution with an extensive biomedical research program. They have many centers that address many of the issues associated with health and human disparities. These centers include the Sickle Cell Center and the Cancer Center. Co-director of the Sickle Cell Center, Dr. Tim Townes, serves as the Chairperson of the Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics Department, has agreed to enter into this collaboration with the faculty of ASU. In addition to this collaborative agreement, ASU has a number of pre-existing agreements on different projects.
