Travel Awards
 
The RIMI program sponsored several faculty and staff members to attend local and national meetings.  These travel awards not only allowed faculty and staff members to present their research findings to their peers, but also allowed them to interact and form new collaborations with other scientists conducting similar or complimentary research.
 
The following faculty and Staff members received travel awards:
 
¨ Dr. Shree Ram Singh, Associate Professor of Biology attended the Annual Meeting of American Society of Microbiology on May 22-26,2006 in Orlando, Florida.  The title of his poster presentation was “ Genetically Modified CT-Based Recombinant RSV Immunogens and Their Immune Response”.
¨ Mrs. Sabita Saldanha, Research Technician visited The University of Georgia at Athens on June 26,2006-July 8,2006 to work, observe and learn transgenic experiments.  Mrs. Saldanha worked under the direction of Dr. Nancy Manley, Associate Professor at University of Georgia at Athens.
¨ Dr. B. K. Robertson, Associate Professor of Biology attended the Annual Meeting of American Society of Microbiology on May 22-26,2006 in Orlando, Florida.  The title of his poster presentation was “Real-Time PCR Detection and Quantification of Culturable and Non-Culturable Aeromonas Species in Source and Drinking Water”.
¨ Mr. Roger Thompson, Research Technician attended the Annual Association of Chemoreception Science Conference in Sarasota, Florida during the month of April.  Mr. Thompson did a poster presentation on “Attenuation of the production of inositol 1,4,5 trisphosphate in the vomeronasal organ by antibodies against the αq/11 subfamily of G- Proteins”.
¨ Mr. Elijah Nyaro, Instructor of Chemistry attended the 231st American Chemical Society Meeting, March 27-30,2006 held in Atlanta, GA to present the topic “Electrospun polycaprolactone/carbon nanofiber composites for bone tissue scaffolds.”
¨ Dr. Kennedy Wekesa, Associate Professor of Biology attended the 63rd Annual Meeting for National Institute of Science and Beta Kappa Chi in Montgomery, Alabama in March 2006.  He also attended the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students in Atlanta, Georgia and the Annual Association of Chemoreception Science Conference in April 2006.
¨ Dr. Audrey Napier, Associate Professor of Biology attended the 63rd  Annual Meeting for National Institute of Science and Beta Kappa Chi in Montgomery, Alabama in March 2006.  She also attended the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students in Atlanta, Georgia .  In April 2006, she attended the Southeast Regional Developmental Biology Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.
¨ Dr. Ronald McMillion, — Research Associate attended the Annual Association of Chemoreception Science Conference in Sarasota, Florida during the month of April.
