Educate Alabama

PEPE has been replaced by Educate Alabama

MAJOR CHANGES

1. This will be a formative evaluation system designed to provide data about a teacher's current performance against the AQTS that can be used to set expectations, goals, and plans for teacher professional growth.

2. There will be no numerical scores awarded in the collaborative evaluation process. Teachers will be rated as Emerging, Applying, Integrating, or Innovating.

3. There are numerous indicators, sub-standards, and standards to be rated. The new evaluation system will employ holistic ratings, much like the current PEPE systems for administrators. The number of forms used in the evaluation process has been minimized. Ratings will appear only on the Collaborative Summary Report.

4. Rubrics have been created for every performance indicator to facilitate the rating process. They are very similar to the rubrics contained in the Alabama Continuum for Teachers. (Evaluation rubrics have four levels rather than five.)

5. Every rubric has four levels: Emerging, Applying, Integrating, and Innovating. Performance at the second level (Applying) is satisfactory performance, with expectations that many, if not most, teachers will grow to the Integrating and Innovating levels over time.

Evaluation results will be a major source of data guiding both state and local professional learning initiatives
