ASU'S College of Education Launches Its Beginning Teacher Assistance Program (BTAP)
Alabam State University’s College of Education faculty and administrators are implementing a Beginning Teacher Assistance Program (BTAP) for 2005 and after program completers to identify P-12 teacher education program graduates who have been certified and placed in teaching positions to assist you in the areas that you and your supervisor deem important to high quality teaching. Some of the areas that you might consider could include classroom management, student assessment and use of data, achievement gap strategies and National Board Certification. The BTAP faculty and administrators will provide varied support services, at no cost, to you for a minimum of three years. These services are not for degree, certification, or university courses offered by the University. These services will include workshops and onsite classroom support activities.
The program, Beginning Teacher Assistance Program (BTAP), is designed to aid non-tenured teachers during their first three years in the classroom. Education graduates will receive assistance in preparing and delivering effective instruction, managing the classroom and evaluating student performance.
One of the program's goals is to assist 80 percent of the college's graduates in becoming certified by the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS)and to follow recent graduates of the College of Education’s teacher preparation programs as they take their first teaching positions.
