The primary mission of the College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) is to prepare artists, professionals and educators for the 21^st century.  Students are taught to understand the complexities of the visual and performing arts.  Therefore, CVPA aspires to provide rich and empowering aesthetic experiences in the fine arts.  It seeks to be a preeminent Alabama provider of an excellent education in the arts; also, to fill a special artistic niche relative to celebrating and understanding the artistic traditions and creativity of African and African-American culture and thought.  Moreover, CVPA is dedicated to providing educational and cultural experiences that enrich and expand the cultural life of the area’s citizens.
