BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH AND TRAINING

The Biomedical Research and Training Programs at Alabama State University are highly competitive, multidisciplinary programs which encompass Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Engineering and Psychology disciplines. These programs are designed to:
- Prepare student participants for careers in biomedical research
- Prepare and facilitate the entry of ASU graduates into the nation’s top quality graduate, health and allied health professions schools
- Provide research opportunities for its faculty and students
- Develop and strengthen the biomedical science capacities of the institution
These goals are accomplished through the work of dedicated student faculty members and administrators working in concert. ASU administrators provide the institutional support required for these programs to be funded and sustained. Faculty members are at the core of each of these programs. They establish the programs through grant writing, or maintain and propel the programs by serving as advisors and/or sponsors. Finally, ASU students are at the heart of each of these programs.
All of the biomedical programs benefit the students either directly or indirectly. The research programs offer student training in research. Capacity building programs provide student with the tools needed to conduct the research. The training grants provide students the opportunity to learn not only technical skills but provide career and professional workshops to enhance their presence in the job market.
Alabama State University is dedicated to educating students and to producing highly qualified professionals to enter into the workforce. In addition to the rigorous classroom academics, our goal is to give our students the hands on experience they will need to be competitive professionals. The Biomedical Research and Training Programs are a major component in achieving this goal.
